Once you have subscribed to aZ-Documents and updated your business documentation you might find yourself wanting to ditch some of your old policies, forms, registers or checklists. So what should you do with all that scrap paper?
Of course, you could always shred the lot (ref ISO 27001 - Information Security Management) and chuck it in the correct recycling bin (ref ISO 14001 - Environmental Management).
But why not go for something more creative? Here are our top five uses for business documents you no longer need. NB. Don't use anything with any personal data on it.
1. Origami
Try a spot of origami. A paper aeroplane is easy. How about a paper crane? (The bird, not the sort that's covered by our lifting operations policy.) Or a dove? Or a dragon. Or a praying mantis. A walrus, maybe? And it doesn't have to be an animal. How about the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal. Your home. Your office. You could make anything - and there will be a YouTube video to show you exactly how. The only limit is your imagination.
2. Collage
If you don't fancy the prospect of all that precision folding, you could make a collage landscape like the image above. Ok, it's not strictly a collage, but it looks like one and you get the idea. Make a picture of your home or office. The Eiffel Tower. The Taj Mahal. Again, your imagination is the only limit.
3. Destroying weeds
Try this and save yourself hours in the garden crouched over a flower bed with a trowel. Simply lay your sheets over the flower bed, then soak them with water. Finally, cover the wet paper with mulch or compost. After a few weeks the paper will smother the weeds before decomposing into your soil along with the compost, helping your plants to flourish.
4. Make a paper chain
Cut your sheets into strips - or run it through a shredder - then make each strip into a loop, linking them as you go. The world record for the longest paper chain made by an individual is 779.21 metres. It only took Julie McKinney, of Fishers, Indianna, US, 12 hours to make. That record is there for the taking! Go for it!
5. Make papier mache sculptures
Ever fancied owning your own Sphinx or Michaelangelo's David? Now's your chance. Mix up a bucket of wall paper paste, soak your paper in it and get stuck in.
