ISO Knowledge Base

We have spent the last five years building something we always intended to offer: a comprehensive ISO knowledge base covering every key management system standard and the practical topics that sit around them. It is now live, free to read, and still growing.

Five Years Building the ISO Knowledge Base

This was not a quick project. The aim from the start was proper guidance on all the main ISO management system standards, written by people who implement and audit these systems for a living rather than rewritten from the standards themselves. Over five years that has grown into a full library covering ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 27001, alongside ISO 22301, 37001, 22458 and 42001, plus the wider subjects that come up in every audit.

What the ISO Knowledge Base Covers

Beyond the standards, the ISO knowledge base covers the topics that decide whether you pass an audit: health and safety, environmental management, information security, legal compliance, internal auditing, risk management, document control, managing equipment and premises, and managing staff and workers. Each article gives an overview of the topic, practical steps for compliance, and a view from more than one perspective, including practising consultants, a NEBOSH-qualified health and safety adviser, and an ISO auditor with over 25 years of certification experience.

Practical Guidance to Achieve ISO Compliance

The point of all of it is practical compliance, not theory. Plenty of ISO material online either restates the standard back at you or buries simple requirements in jargon. Our articles are written in plain language and tell you what is actually needed to comply, without doing anything excessive. Where an article describes a process, it links to the alphaZ documents that put that guidance into practice.

We have also started the same connection in reverse. Every alphaZ document page is now being linked back to the knowledge base, and we are now working through the document and toolkit pages so each one points to the articles that explain it. The two sit together: the article tells you what is needed, the document gives you the means to evidence it.

The knowledge base is free to use. Browse by category, or use the knowledge base search which will provide results from both the knowledge base and the news and document update blogs.

At launch the knowledge base has 362 articles, and we have plans to keep it growing, with new articles and updates to existing ones to reflect any changes or developments.
